After a spectacular Opening Ceremony that almost blew the roof off Olympiastadion, athletes are now in venues for divisioning.
Divisioning is the Special Olympics way of level-matching competition so that athletes compete against others of similar ability.
Through divisioning, athletes get to compete with others of the same gender, and of similar age and competitive ability.
This gives Special Olympics athletes - who want to compete - opportunities to build confidence and climb the competition ladder, regardless of their age or ability level.
Special Olympics is not an elite sporting pathway. It is an inclusive sporting community for all people with an intellectual disability who want to get active and achieve their best whether that's through regular participation or competition progression.
