At the end of Day 5, Team Australia had a medal count of 4 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze medals, as well as a number of ribbons for places 5-8.
A country vs country medal tally is not kept at the Special Olympics World Games because personal best achievements are valued more than medals…but our athletes do count those medals!!!!
Some of the personal bests for today include:
- Every member of our six-person golf team won a medal ranging from bronze to gold.
- Our equestrian team – the youngest members of Team Australia – have all secured a medal, despite riding on borrowed horses.
- Alex and Rebecca, our two tennis players, teamed up in the Mixed Doubles to take home a silver medal.
After competition it was party time for our equestrian, basketball and bocce teams who enjoyed the fun of the exclusive athlete party at the historic Brandenburg Gate, which will be the venue for the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, 25 June 2023.
