After a good night’s sleep, breakfast and little light training Team Australia headed out to explore Potsdam with a choice of afternoon cultural activities: a guided walk through the picturesque streets of Potsdam or a tour of the Lindenstrasse Memorial, formerly the site of Stasi Prison.
Pottering around Potsdam
For those who enjoyed exploring Potsdam there were beautiful buildings to see, many selfies to take, lots of interaction with locals, a warm blue-skyed day to enjoy…and many scoops of gelato!
At every turn there was something new to see and, after 24-48 hours in transit, athletes were relieved to finally stretch their legs and explore Potsdam where they will stay until Thursday evening when they move into Team accommodation in Berlin.
Bringing Inclusion to Exclusion
Another group of athletes and officials headed to the Lindenstrasse Memorial for a guided tour of the historic site. Formerly know as the Stasi Prison, this was a place of political persecution for generations of people, including those of the Jewish Faith, as well as adults and children with disability.
It was a very tough subject delivered exceptionally well by our guide who had athletes and officials engaged for the entire tour of this historic site built on exclusion and isolation. Athletes showed great insight into their historical knowledge and asked many pertinent questions about the subject matter.
Tomorrow
Tomorrow after morning training, Team Australia will have the choice of touring Museum Barbarini, one of the most visited art museums in Germany, or exploring Neue Kammern, an impressive eighteenth century castle.
