People with an intellectual disability are 5 times more likely to experience mental health issues.

We urgently need to raise $100,000 to support the mental and physical health of 3,338 athletes with an intellectual disability to keep them in the game.

COVID-19 has created even bigger barriers for this marginalised and socially isolated community.

And with limited funding compared to major sporting competitions, Special Olympics Australia needs your help.

Please sponsor an athlete now to provide specialist coaching and training in these tough times to support them for the next 6 months.

Join us and let our athletes know they are not forgotten!

Donate now and you will receive a personal certificate of recognition. All donations over $500 receive a Special Olympics Australia inclusion medal.

Special Olympics empowers people with an intellectual disability – of all capabilities to realise their dreams.

By giving them the opportunity to play sport, it opens the door to personal achievement, pride and inclusion.

Sports training keeps people with an intellectual disability physically active, motivated and socially connected to their coaches and friends.

With limited funding compare to mainstream sporting organisations, we rely on the generosity of people like you to support our athletes.

So let’s stand together and show our athletes they are not alone!

Sponsor an athlete to provide training and support to keep them in the game.

A Global Inclusion Movement

Special Olympics is a global inclusion movement that supports over 5 million athletes in over 177 countries.

It gives people with an intellectual disability the opportunity to play sport and opens the door to personal achievement, pride and inclusion for some of the most marginalised and isolated members of our community.

Like the Olympics and Paralympics, Special Olympics believe in the power of sport to create a better world. Each organisation has a slightly different focus.

The Olympics is an iconic and well supported major sporting event for elite athletes.

The Paralympics is a major sporting event for elite athletes, mainly with a physical disability.

Special Olympics is a year-round multi-sports program for people with an intellectual disability who have access to robust competition pathways including our State Games, National Games and World Games which is hosted on a four-year cycle in summer and winter sports.

Our Impact in Australia

Special Olympics Australia began in 1976 when many people with an intellectual disability were shut in institutions. Whilst this is no longer the norm in Australia, we continue to see public support to ensure that people with an intellectual disability are not shut out and feel included and supported to achieve their dreams.

A big thank you to our Supporters
